Infrastructure in the Soviet Union (USSR) suffered badly, production of agricultural machinery was nonexistent during war. The Communist state ordered new tractors to be made at several locations within the USSR, the main assembly plant for MTZ was in Minsk, Belarus. Belarus had a poor reputation because of Western propaganda and the quality of the tractors often suffered due to the then Communist State stopping investment, to concentrate on weapons and military output. Tractor factories could not obtain quality materials and made-do with inferior components. An estimated three million tractors have been built in Minsk, Belarus since 1948. Belarus has steadily built its reputation back up and produces high quality tractor’s that meet European standards.
